So I HAVE been getting paint on my hands, but mostly just from putting color on picture frames and such. There’s a lot of blue and green in my living room and I got tired of all the mismatched wood tones on the picture frames.
I spent this past weekend putting heat blocking curtains in my upstairs windows since this is the desert and it’s April. Everyone has been warning me about the summers here since I arrived in September and my windows DO face West, so…
I WILL post some photos of some art journal pages as soon as I TAKE some photos of some art journal pages…
See…Not only do I not know if anyone would even be interested is seeing what I create, I don’t know if anyone out in the wilds of the interwebs will ever read this at all.
Meh…I’m gonna write anyway.
Aside from the fact that this blog is named for 2 of them, it is not intended to be about them exclusively. They are my children and I love them dearly, but I also wanted a place to discuss my tentative steps into the worlds of crafting and art journalling.
Over the past holiday weekend, I organized quite a bit more of my “Craft Room” and even took the time to paint a few things. See…I rent a 2 bedroom apartment and the smaller bedroom is my craft spot.
I have collected A LOT of supplies and equipment over the past couple of years, looking forward to the time (NOW!!!) when I could get creative with it all. I have books and paper and wood and metal and odd bits of flotsam & jetsam just waiting patiently for me to transform it all into a new and/or reincarnated thing of beauty and/or usefullness.
So…this blog provides me with one less excuse for keeping it all to myself. I can make things, take pictures of them, and post them here. If other people like them, YAY! If they don’t, that will be OK too, because this is the interwebs and criticism once removed matters to me even less than in real life.
The point of all this is that I have the space and time to GET creative. Whatever comes out will be…um…whatever!
Oh! The craft room is closed to kitties except for when I am in it, because, more than the fact that I don’t want to worry about the children messing up my projects, I REALLY don’t want to have to clean wet paint off of cats!
I’ll have the eggs to post a picture of SOMEthing I made soon…until then, here is one of the MANY pictures I like from Pinterest…
I would be remiss if I did not introduce my Hobbits, Merry & Pippin, to Y’all.
They are brothers, littermates, and incredibly devoted to each other.
I originally wanted two kittens so that they could keep each other company while I was at work. A friend of a friend had a pregnant cat and I claimed two, sight unseen. I got the call on February 23, 2007 that there were 5 kittens, so I said I wanted 2. As soon as I hung up the phone, I got the call from Danny about Horatio, but I had committed to taking 2 kittens, so there it was.
I got them about 6 weeks later and brought them home to meet H. They hid under the recliner often (until they got too big), would crawl out when I got home, looking sleepy and bewildered, and spent time annoying Horatio and charming me.
Merry had a grey mark on the top of his head that disappeared as he got older…he’s now my huge, thick, son. Everything about him is thick…His fur, his tail, his body…he moves like a big cat and he’s my buff boy.
His nickname is “Big Boy” and it fits my great white hunter!
Pippin was a pale cream color as a kitten, but darkened to a deep, seal-point brown by age 2. He’s always had the amazing blue eyes of a Siamese and has had more than his share of attitude for his whole life. He will head-butt those he loves to get them to pet him and his purr sounds more like a snore. I either call him “Baby Boy” or Blue Eyes” and he only wants to be pet on HIS terms.
Merry and Pippin are very close siblings…it would be cruel for anyone to separate them from each other.
That concludes the introductions of my much loved, furry children.
Emily was discovered hiding in the back of a cage (behind her sister, Domino) at the Central California SPCA in the fall of 2009. My ex and I had gone there looking for a black & white cat for him and Emily poked her beautiful face out when I looked in the cage.
Her fur is like butter and if I don’t pay enough attention to her, she will pat me with her paw as if to say, “You have a free hand there…get to petting, Lady!”
We adopted both Emily and Domino and when my ex and I broke up, he took is little psycho girl with him, and Emily lives with me. The boys can be very mean to her (especially Pippin) but she perseveres and she is Mommy’s BabyGirlKid.
She is my sweet girl and she purrs so loudly and intensely when it’s time for bed, she starts to drool and I can hear her make smacking sounds as she tries not to drip on the covers.
She is my little sweetheart. You can tell by looking at her, can’t you?
