Introductions part 2

Hanging out in the kitchen.
Hanging out in the kitchen.

Emily was discovered hiding in the back of a cage (behind her sister, Domino) at the Central California SPCA in the fall of 2009. My ex and I had gone there looking for a black & white cat for him and Emily poked her beautiful face out when I looked in the cage.

She is named for Emily Star of the L. M. Montgomery books and for Sara Crewe’s doll in A Little Princess (by Frances Hodgson Burnett). Her nickname is “Pretty” and she sleeps on me at night.

Her fur is like butter and if I don’t pay enough attention to her, she will pat me with her paw as if to say, “You have a free hand there…get to petting, Lady!”

We adopted both Emily and Domino and when my ex and I broke up, he took is little psycho girl with him, and Emily lives with me. The boys can be very mean to her (especially Pippin) but she perseveres and she is Mommy’s BabyGirlKid.

She is my sweet girl and she purrs so loudly and intensely when it’s time for bed, she starts to drool and I can hear her make smacking sounds as she tries not to drip on the covers.

She is my little sweetheart. You can tell by looking at her, can’t you?

I'm SO PRETTY!!
I’m SO PRETTY!!

Horatio is the oldest of my cats, but at nearly 8 years old, he’s plenty spry. He’s handsome and he knows it. Just look at him! He is friendly to EVERYONE and dearly loves to try to go outside.

On February 23, 2007, I received a phone call from my oldest brother, Danny, who only lived about a 1/2 mile away from me. In his words, “You gotta come check out this cat.” So I drove over and met H.

He had been limping around my brother’s apartment complex on three paws, his left front paw paining him somehow. The rumor was that the crazy lady in the apartment across the way had slammed a door on his paw.
It being a Saturday, I took him to the emergancy vet hospital and paid a pretty penny for him to get checked out. The vet gave me antibiotics for him, told me it looked like his paw had been bitten by another cat or a small dog, checked his teeth and guessed that H was approx. 1 or 2 years old, and that he had been fixed.  I took Horatio home and he has been living in the lap of luxury since that day.
His full name is Horatio Bruce Caine. He is named after the character played by David Caruso on CSI Miami. My H is also a redheaded overactor. “Bruce” comes from a friend of my brother’s, whose personality mirrors Horatio’s.

He comes to greet me when I walk in the door, is curious about EVERYTHING (seriously, If I open a closet, he’s the first to check it out), and my life is richer by far for his presence in it…

In my next post, I will introduce y’all to Emily.
